Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) will organize CAN InfoTech 2012 early next year. This annual fixture has been on for the past 17 years, offering platform for latest products and interactions for the IT sector. This time, the expo has been schedule for January 26 to 31, 2012. Republica caught up with CAN president Suresh K. Karna and talked about the preparations. Excerpts: [break]

Even though it is more than two months away, preparations for CAN InfoTech 2012 have already begun?

CAN InfoTech is the largest event in the country in terms of visitor turnout. Despite a history of successfully organizing the event, we often receive complaints about mismanagement. Overwhelming participation always makes it very difficult to manage the crowd toward the last hours. This time, apart from introducing new products we have started work on crowd-management so that the event has a more organized look and image.

How do you plan to manage the crowd so that visitors feel comfortable at the expo?

We are working to give the event a feel of international standards. In order to make the exhibition attractive we have divided the place into two parts. Big pavilion inside will provide branding opportunity while outer space will be used for trade. Outside, 144 stalls will be accommodated properly. We are also using the area of Bhrikutimandap Garden and the food court will be located there.

Inside the pavilion, we are widening the passage by two meters on either side to ease the visitor movement. There are two different entry passes for the event. One is called fast-track and the other is general pass. We are planning to provide separate passage for fast-track pass holders which will help to make the event look more organized. CAN is having the exhibitors´ briefing a month in advance so that exhibitors can design their stalls keeping visitor covenience in mind.

How will the event be different from the past?

I am really not in a position to share information about the new features of the event as we are still to finalize many things. I can assure the visitors that they will get something new and different from regular events. Although trade is a major priority of the event, our focus will be on branding this time. More than 90 companies have already confirmed their participation while we believe more companies will participate eventually.

Who will be the title sponsor of the event?

A company has been confirmed about the main sponsorship but the product of the company has not been finalized yet. Other sponsors including platinum, gold, diamond and silver sponsors have been finalized. Internet Service Provider (ISP) Classic Tech will be Diamond Sponsor while Websurfer will be the Gold Sponsor of the event.

Will you give continuation to ICT Conference in CAN InfoTech 2012?

We will continue with the ICT Conference and this time it will be a two-day affair. We will have a theme-based ICT conference instead of discussions on general topics.
