KATHMANDU, Oct 29: Police have detained 33 activists of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) who reached Baluwatar, Kathmandu, to protest against the government. They were arrested after they breached prohibitory orders while protesting in Baluwatar.
Following the arrest of RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane for his alleged involvement in the misuse of cooperative funds, the agitating RSP decided to stage a demonstration in Baluwatar today. Leaders and activists gathered at Nepal House in Baluwatar for the protest. Police declared the Nepal House as a prohibited area.

Meanwhile, RSP Acting General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti confirmed that 17 activists of RSP have been arrested so far. According to him, among those arrested are Birendra Shrestha, Ashok Chaudhary, Pradip Bista, Suresh Pokharel, Dhurba Dhakal, Nabraj Bhandari, Prakash Lamichhane, Raksha Rayamajhi, Sahil Priyas, Sabi Khadka, Buddha Ratna Maharjan, Daya Ram Nepal, Surendra Raj Awale, Sailendra Khatri, Umesh Lama, Khushi Ram Kaini and Nabraj Mudwari.
The RSP had decided to chant slogans, sing songs, recite poems, use satires and speeches in order to make today’s protest creative. Vice Chairman Dr Swarnim Waglé, former education minister Sumana Shrestha, chief whip of the RSP Parliamentary Party, Santosh Pariyar, and lawmaker Sobita Gautam were scheduled to address the program.
Similarly, Vice-Chairman Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal was supposed to conclude the demonstration that was planned for 12 PM to 2:30 PM. However, their predetermined demonstration program schedule has been affected after the police intervention.
The arrested Chairman, Lamichhane is currently in police custody in Kaski. The RSP has been accusing the government of arresting its activists out of political revenge.
