Police seize 705 LPG cylinders in Kathmandu, gas store operator arrested for black marketing

KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Police have seized 705 LPG gas cylinders from Gairigaun in Tinkune, Kathmandu, in an alleged case of black marketing.



A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office recovered the cylinders while they were loaded onto two large trucks.


Police have arrested Dinesh Luintel, operator of Jai Shree Balaji Gas Store in Basundhara, on charges of illegally selling LPG cylinders at inflated prices. Luintel, 38, is a resident of Gramthan Rural Municipality-2 in Morang district.

According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Luintel had been selling gas cylinders for Rs 2,750 each through his store in Basundhara.


All 705 cylinders seized by police belong to Nepal Gas Company. Police said the accused had been selling new cylinders for as much as Rs 5,000 each.
