KATHMANDU, Sept 11: A total of 132 children displaced by the Rasuwa-Bhotekoshi floods and currently staying in Kathmandu have started attending school.
The children have been enrolled at Gitamata School in Dallu, Kathmandu. They had been displaced from their homes following the floods and were staying at shelters in the capital.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol urged teachers to treat the children with care, saying their words and actions could cause further emotional distress. She called on educators to interact with the children warmly and create a supportive learning environment.

Members of the municipal executive, elected representatives and officials from the Education Department visited the school to encourage students staying at the Yellow Gumba shelter in Nagarjun.
Some of the enrolled children have lost both parents, while others have lost one parent. Koshi Nepal has provided school bags and uniforms and is also offering psychosocial counseling to the children.
LR International School has provided transportation to bring the children from their shelter to school and back.
Gitamata School Principal Hari Krishna Shrestha said children experiencing deep distress should not be forced to attend school. He said the school is instead working to gradually help them return to normal through counseling and a supportive environment.
