TAAN felicitated In-Jeong in recognition of his credible efforts and inspirational leadership to protect mountain environment, mountain communities and mountain diversities of the world, according to a statement issued on Friday.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ananda Prasad Pokharel handed over letter of appreciation to In-Jeong.
TAAN also extended letter of felicitation, posthumously, to Park Young-Seok of South Korea -- the first man to climb 14 eight-thousanders and Seven Summits, and trek to both poles. Minister Pokharel handed over letter of felicitation to Park's wife.
Park went missing in Nepal 2011 while opening a new climbing route in Mount Annapurna.
Speaking at the program, Chandra Rijal, president of TAAN, said his association was keen to strengthen partnership with UAAA as it has been working in mountain areas of Nepal. "The function that we organized today is a part of our efforts in that direction," he added.
TAAN is the 'observer member' of UAAA.
Karna Bahadur Lama, general secretary of TAAN, said Nepal, which lies in the lap of the Himalayas, needs to enhance cooperation with UAAA for effective development and promotion of tourism in mountain areas. "UAAA's support is crucial for us in fighting the impacts of climate change and global warming in our country," he added.
