Reshma Rai, Bishnu Limbu and Gita Khadka netted two goals each for Singhadevi while Saru Limbu and Anita Limbu were also on target. Bisheshta Thapa of Modern Indian scored an own goal.
Earlier in the first match, Tops Higher Secondary School of Kaski edged past Apple Academy of Kathmandu 3-2. Bimala Chaudhary stole the show with a hat-trick for Tops. She scored in the 15th, 35th and 50th minutes. Krishna Kumari Karki scored in the sixth minute for Apple and Elisa Shah added another in the 35th.
In the boys" matches played at the same venue, Siddhartha Vanasthali of Kathmandu, Shree High School of Mahottari and Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya of Bhaktapur emerged victorious. Meanwhile, Gandaki High School of Pokhara and Karmeshwar High School of Kailali shared points following a goalless draw.
Siddhartha Vanasthali edged past Gandhi Adarsha Higher Secondary School 2-1. Sushant Chaudhary and Chhiring Sherpa were on target for Siddhartha Vanasthali while Tej Bahadur Budhathoki scored the only goal for Gandhi.
In another match, Shabnam Rai scored both the goals as Shree came from behind to beat Bhanu Memorial School of Morang 2-1. Laxman Rai had given an early eighth-minute lead to Bhanu.
Defending champion Sainik defeated Apple Academy 3-0 with a goal each from Sangam Rai, Prawesh Karki and Bikash Ale.
Vivek Rana wins Malaysian Merdeka Cup
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Vivek Rana on Saturday won the Malaysian Merdeka Cup Golf Tournament played at the Royal Nepal Golf Club, Kathmandu. Rana scored 39 points in the event played under Stableford 3/4 handicap format. He also won the award for most birdies. Champion Rana received a Kathmandu-Malaysia business class round-trip ticket along with the trophy.
Mani Lal Thapa secured second position on countback after being tied with Robin Rana on 37 points. Thapa and Rana bagged vouchers worth Rs 8,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
Mithun Rai took home the best gross award with 30 points.
Sandhya Rai won the women"s title with 34 points. Kaushi Maya Rai finished second on countback after she was tied on 28 points with Uma Tewari.
Chitra Bahadur Gurung emerged winner in the senior section with 37 points, ahead of Gopal Chitrakar (35) and Rajendra Man Sherchan (28).
Sherpa wins monthly medal
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Babu Sherpa on Saturday won the Surya Nepal Gokarna Golf Monthly Medal Tournament held at Gokarna Golf Club, Kathmandu. Sherpa claimed the title on countback after a tie with Tendi Sherpa on three-under 69. Robin Rana finished third at two-under 70. Prabhat Singh won the best gross award in the event played under stroke play full handicap format.
Health camp for sports journalists
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Nepal Sports Journalist Forum (NSJF) on Saturday organized a free health camp for sports journalists on the occasion of its 18th anniversary. Metro Clinic of Thapathali had partnered with the NSJF to provide free health checkup to sports journalists. Nearly 40 journalists benefited from the health camp. Endocrinologist Dr Jyoti Bhattarai gave health tips to the journalists on the occasion.
New Buddha Prakash wins wushu
KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): New Buddha Prakash School on Saturday won the team championship of the First Invitational Inter-school Wushu Championship held in the capital. New Buddha Prakash claimed a total of 13 gold, 12 silver and three bronze medals. In the event held at Satdobato Sports Complex, Rajiv Tamang of Peace Academy and Anu Rai of New Buddha Prakash were declared the best players in boys" and girls" thaulo respectively. Likewise, Santosh Hayu of Pavitra in boys" sansau and Puja Gajurel of Mahakaleshwar in girls" sansau were declared the best players. Around 300 players from 28 schools competed for 54 golds in the three-day event.
