Pakistan to stand by Saudi kingdom

ISLAMABAD, March 9: Pakistan has assured the Saudi government that it will stand by the kingdom and its people in defending the two Holy Mosques against any transgression. Diplomatic sources told The News on Sunday that the last week's visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Saudi Arabia had laid new foundations of fraternal ties between the two brotherly countries.

The visit, which culminated on Friday, has rejuvenated the relations between the two countries spreading over six decades.Diplomats were flabbergasted to see the reception accorded to Prime Minister Nawaz and his brief entourage on arrival in Riyadh and during its stay in the kingdom. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Finance Minster Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Syed Tariq Fatemi accompanied the premier.Sources rejected as speculation the story of an American TV network suggesting an undertaking by Islamabad that the kingdom will be given nuclear cover. Likewise news by a western newspaper about sending troops to the kingdom for security has also been denied.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's first official visit to the Kingdom has proved to be a great success, as the Royal authorities have assured him that the Pakistani expatriates in the kingdom will get maximum facilities and that the Pakistani workforce will be preferred for jobs.Sources revealed that Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud will undertake an important visit to Pakistan in October-November this year.

He will also attend the science summit of the OIC in Islamabad. The summit was to be arranged during the first quarter of this year but it was deferred to the last quarter of the year, the sources added. King Salman bin Abdul Aziz will also visit Lahore during his trip.The sources reminded that Pakistan had been playing a constructive role for improvement of relations between Riyadh and Tehran. Pakistan's efforts yielded positive results in the past.

"It would be unfair to drag Pakistan in tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran, if any." Pakistan has always preserved its relations with Iran and one shouldn't expect that it would cause any trouble to Iran since there is plausible reason for that, the sources reminded. The Saudi Royal leadership has assured Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that the kingdom's special relationship with Pakistan would be preserved by all means.
