The displaced 94 families from Jogbuda, Sirsha, and Alital VDCs, located in the inner-Madhesh region of the district, have been living in makeshift shelters erected in the nearby jungles. [break]
On the very day, the fertile lands owned by the locals were swept away by the flood in the Rangun, Pantura and Sirsha rivers.
During a press meet held at Dadeldhura District Administration Office (DAO) on Monday, Coordinator of Flood Victim Struggling Committee Nar Bahadur Bam shared that the government had promised to provide 2 katthas of land and Rs 50,000 to each victims, but that they have not received such compensation until now.
“We have written to the concerned authorities nine times, but to no avail,” said Bam.
According to the victims, they have received nothing but consolations from the politicians.
“The flood ravaged most of our cultivable lands, leaving us with little choices for livelihood,” said Ganesh Tiwari, a victim who has been living in the jungle after the flood.
The problem of land erosion is a recurrent one, informed Bam. “The government and various organizations pour loads of money every year to prevent land erosion, but the problem persists,” said Bam.
After reading yet another memorandum, Bam handed it over to Rishiram Tiwari, the district chief, requesting immediate assistance for the flood victims.
