KATHMANDU, Jan 7: Nepali Congress (NC) has finalized nine candidates for the upcoming National Assembly election, drawing nominees from all seven provinces as parties intensify preparations for the polls.
From Koshi Province, the NC has recommended Sunil Bahadur Thapa under the “Others” category. In Madhesh Province, the party has nominated Dharmendra Paswan in the Dalit category, while Ranjit Karn has been recommended under the Persons with Disabilities/Minorities category.
Gita Devkota has been selected from Bagmati Province under the women’s category. Similarly, Jagat Timilsina has been nominated from Gandaki Province under the “Others” category.

In Lumbini Province, NC has put forward Basudev Jangali under the Persons with Disabilities/Minorities category and Chandrabahadur K.C. under the “Others” category. Lalitjung Shahi has been nominated from Karnali Province, while Khammabahadur Khati has been recommended from Sudurpaschim Province, both under the “Others” category.
As talks continue among NC, CPN-UML, and other parties over possible electoral alliances, political parties have started finalizing their candidates. Candidate nominations are being filed nationwide today.
The Election Commission has scheduled the National Assembly election for January 25 to fill 18 vacant seats, with scheduling the nomination of candidates across the country on Tuesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, four political parties—including NC, UML, Nepali Communist Party (NCP), and Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP-Nepal)—reached an agreement on the distribution of the 18 vacant seats in the National Assembly.
Under the seat-sharing deal, NC and UML will each get seven seats, the NCP three seats and JSP-Nepal one seat.
