KATHMANDU, Jan 7: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection (DoCSCP) has fined two firms a total of Rs 250,000 after on-site inspections uncovered violations of consumer protection standards.
Manjushree Plastic Industries, located in Changunarayan Municipality-2, Bhaktapur, was fined Rs 200,000 after inspectors found irregularities during field monitoring.

Similarly, Shree Polythene and Plastic Industry Pvt Ltd of Kathmandu was fined Rs 50,000 for non-compliance.
According to the DoCSCP, the firms were penalized under Section 16(2)(a) and Section 38 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2018, in line with Section 39(1)(b) of the same Act.
The DoCSCP said it inspected 17 industries and firms in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur as part of its monitoring drive. While penalties were imposed on two firms, 15 others were issued corrective directives.
The DoCSCP said regular monitoring and inspections are being carried out in coordination with local administrations and consumer rights activists to ensure compliance and protect consumers.
