BUTWAL, Jan 12: Senior leader of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the peace process should be concluded prior to promulgating the new constitution.

Leader Nepal, a vocal critic of the ruling Maoist party, said if the UCPN (Maoist) was not made a civilian party before promulgating the constitution, another situation could come to go for the general election with arms again.[break]

He conceded, "It was wrong to go for the CA elections without making the Maoist party armless."

The former PM was of the opinion that the peace process was delayed due to the Maoist party, adding that the country was plunging into crisis by the ultra-leftist dogmatism of the Maoist party.

He further accused the Maoist party of hindering the formation of the national unity government.

Leader Nepal said the PLA combatants would not get a chance to join the Nepal Army en bloc except those meeting the NA standards.

Saying the UML was applying the strategy of unity, struggle and transformation at the same time with the Maoist party, leader Nepal added the UML has to play a role to bring the Nepali Congress to the path of democratic changes from status quo.

Speaking on the occasion, UML Politburo member Pradip Gyawali said time has come for UML to lead the country for socio-economic transformation.
