Nepa Construction Expo 2012 kicks off

KATHMANDU, Nov 30: Nepa Construction Expo 2012 kicked off in Kathmandu on Friday, showcasing different construction materials, good and services related to interior designing and heavy equipment used in the execution of larger construction and development projects.



The expo that was formally inaugurated by five former presidents of the Federation of Contractors´ Association of Nepal (FCAN), namely Banwari Lal Mishra, Ganesh Lal Shrestha, Ramesh Sharma, Jip Chhiring Lama and Yaksha Dhwoj Karki, has brought together different companies dealing on construction materials in more than 70 stalls. The first construction expo in the country that was organized by FCAN has targeted to draw more than 30,000 people from construction sector, industrialists, and consumers among others.



"This is the first construction expo in the country and we are confident that this would be a milestone in infrastructure development of the country," Jaya Ram Lamichhane, president of FCAN, said.



Contractors have complained that the construction has not got any momentum in the country due to lack of favorable environment.



"Contractors are not working enthusiastically due to different constraints and limitations in this field," L R Tamang, president of Nepal Electrical Contractors´ Association, said in the inauguration ceremony of the expo. "The rules and regulations are not friendly and we are deprived of gaining benefit from the potential that we have in the country´s construction sector."



The expo has some new products for the domestic market. "We have brought elevators for household use," Bipin Kumar Pokhrel, director of the Ooddiy Enterprises, said. "We have launched vacuum elevators imported from Ireland and Italy for three-storied and six-storied houses.”



Other attractions of the expo are stalls of companies dealing on pipes, fittings, colors in discounted price that are offering attractive discount. Heavy equipment from companies like Case and Force have also been exhibited in the expo.



"This is a platform for consumers to know about varieties of products required for construction and building buildings," Lamichhane said.
