KATHMANDU, Feb 2: The Election Commission (EC) has removed the names of 76 individuals from the Proportional Representation (PR) closed list, citing eligibility and compliance-related reasons.
According to the EC, four candidates were underage, while one was not listed on the voters’ roll. In addition, 21 individuals were blacklisted, 12 had failed to pay outstanding fines, and one name was removed for nominating a male candidate in a slot reserved for a woman.

Assistant Election Officer for the PR system Yagya Prasad Bhattarai said 26 candidates were removed for duplication, as their names also appeared on the provincial PR closed lists.
“In the 2022 election, some candidates were fined for failing to submit their election expenditure details. Those who did not clear the fines and have filed candidacy again have been removed from the proportional representation closed list,” Bhattarai said.
The EC had on January 18 published the PR candidates’ list for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5. A total of 3,213 candidates were included in the PR closed lists.
Political parties had submitted PR lists for the 110 available seats. Under the PR system, 110 members will be elected to the House of Representatives, while 165 members will be elected through the First Past the Post (FPTP) system.
Meanwhile, the Commission has completed the printing of 20,854,800 ballot papers required for the PR election system.
