KATHMANDU, Dec 20: Expressing serious objection to Supreme Court justices´ attendance at functions organized by non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has submitted a letter of memorandum to Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmee Tuesday.

"We have requested to the chief justice to disallow justices from attending NGO functions and making speeches at such functions," NBA General Secretary Bijaya Mishra said.[break]

The association has however not named the justices who attended NGO functions.

The NBA also opposed the idea of setting up a Constitutional Court (CC) in the new constitution. "We requested to the chief justice not to accept provisions related to Constitutional Court in the new constitution," Mishra added.

The NBA also requested the chief justice to ask Law Minister Brijesh Kumar Gupta to make public names of those who attempted to bribe the minister seeking appointment as SC justices. At present there are six justice positions vacant at the SC.

Receiving the memorandum, Chief Justice Regmee assured NBA representatives that he would work to address the concerns.
