Maintenance works at Jomsom airport begins

MYAGDI, April 14: Process for the blacktopping of Jomsom Airport has been started. The government has decided to carryout maintenance works along with the extension before blacktopping the runway.



The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation has already started extending the airport grounds by 50 meters to the North and 25 meters to the South from the threshold and widen the runway by 20 meters.[break]



The 739 meter-runway will be extended to 814 meters, once the construction is completed. It has been reported that there had been difficulties in landing and taking-off during flights due to damaged runway.



According to Chief at the Civil Aviation Office, Jomsom, Shiva Prasad Sharma said that the runway will be blacktopped by completing the gravelling soon.

The maintenance of the Airport will be completed at a cost of Rs. 2.77 million, stated the Civil Aviation Office, Jomsom.
