Madhyapur unveils new jersey

KATHMANDU, Nov 17: Iceberg Madhyapur Youth Association has unveiled its new jersey for the Martyrs Memorial A Division League that will begin from Tuesday at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu. MYA, based in Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur is competing in the A division league for the first time since its promotion to the top flight football.



The jersey in traditional Bhaktapur style "Haku Patesee" was unveiled during a function to inaugurate its football ground at Madhyapur, Thimi after maintenance. [break]The match between MYA and Nepal Police Club will mark the beginning of league.



"As it is community based club we have chose black and red color that matches Haku Patesee to represent the community of Bhaktapur," MYA President Upendra Man Singh said. "From now onward it will be our primary jersey. Officials and supporters will also use the same jersey."



According to Singh, the ground maintenance was conducted under initiation of MYA and only about 40 percent of maintenance work was completed. Singh informed that Madhyapur Thimi Municipality and local donors supported the maintenance work.



According to Singh, the play ground will be used for regular training of academy and senior players. MYA runs its own academy for young players. Singh also informed that MYA was working on alternative ground for other local footballers.



Singh, the former skipper of the national team and also the coach clarified that the club was not expecting big results in the current league. "We are a new team in A division league. We will mature in the A division football and make our firm presence felt after some years. One should dream but not those that are unachievable," Singh said. "Thus we will aim for a place in top eight. We might be the A division club with lowest budget. Thus we should not hurry."



Singh also stated that the club was planning to hire two foreigner players for the league. "We have started process to hire a forward and a midfielder. Other will be old faces of the club. We have given continuity to our training since Ncell Cup and hope to achieve good results."



MYA had come up with sensational results and made it to the semifinal of the Ncell Cup held few months ago in the capital.



Meanwhile, MYA officials played a friendly match against Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) on Saturday at its ground. MYA lost the match 4-0. Dilip Thapa scored twice for NSJF while Prajwal Shakya and Suman Thapa scored one goal each. Earlier, MYA officials had defeated Federation of Nepali Journalists, Bhaktapur chapter 2-0.
