Lama, who has time and again suggested that the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) maintain transparency, said, "I won´t go to the London Olympics to witness the wrongdoings of the NOC." [break]
Lama was named by the NOC as chef de mission of the Nepali team, during a farewell function the other day for players who are set to represent Nepal at the Olympics.
Stating that he was fed up with nine months of coordination with the internationally recognized NOC, Lama said, "I am tired of nontransparency and disrespectful attitude shown by NOC toward the law of the land. It is not possible to join hands with the NOC after completion of the London Olympics."
Two NOCs including one recognized by the Supreme Court and another recognized by the International Olympic Committee are in existence in the country. The Supreme Court has recognized the NOC headed by Rukma Sumsher Rana.
Lama characterized the internationally recognized NOC headed by Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan as autocratic, feudal and nontransparent. Pointing out the main problems of the NOC, Lama said, "NOC neither discloses the amounts it receives from abroad nor discloses details of expenditure. NOC is guided by the notion that no one can take the leadership other than oneself".
Lama also claimed that he has a sure-fire solution to the dispute and he would implement it after the London Olympics. "I have a fantastic solution for the dispute and I will disclose it after the Olympics." He claimed that the solution would not violate the Olympic charter and would be acceptable to the NOC, IOC, the Supreme Court and NSC as well."
Meanwhile, almost all speakers at the interaction suggested that the NSC and NOC work together to resolve the dispute.
Nepal Taekwondo Association General Secretary Deep Raja Gurung, for his part, has suggested to Lama not to go to the Olympics as chef de mission. "It does not become the post of NSC executive head to visit the Olympics as chef de mission." Gurung also stressed the need of roundtable discussions involving all stakeholders for resolving the dispute.
