Laxman Dhakal, former personal secretary of NC President Sushil Koirala, was defeated in Morang while Hom Dulal, who announced his candidacy for district president in Ilam, faced defeat at the ward itself. Similar is the story of Kishor Rai, who was the party's Dharan committee president for 14 consecutive years.
However, Sidhartha Koirala, grandson of B. P. Koirala, saw victory in Madhesa VDC of Sunsari district.
Village level conventions confined to paper
In Mahottari, most of village level conventions could not take place due to threats and protests by the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF). Consequently, most of the party's village level conventions remained confined to paper.
Conventions at Pigauna, Parsapataili and Siswakataiya could not take place because of disputes over leadership while they were cancelled at Hatisarwa and Ekhariya villages due to UDMF protests.
Meanwhile, local UDMF cadres disrupted the convention in Gaushala Municipality Ward No. 6. They vandalized furniture and seized documents.
As there was no favorable atmosphere for conducting NC convention activities at district headquarters Jaleshwar, the party established its contact office at Bardibas on the East-West Highway, where the presence of the Madhesi community is thinner.
Vote count postponed
The counting of votes at Koshi Haraicha Municipality of Morang district was postponed for Monday due to disputes, according to parliamentarian Dig Bahadur Limbu.
It is learnt that the counting was postponed due to a dispute over the alteration of ballets for the party's town committee president.
Limbu informed that voting results from most of the 50 VDCs and seven municipalities are already complete.
Some of the NC leaders holding vital positions for village and town level conventions have already been defeated at ward level.
According to NC Morang secretary Yadu Bista, Mahila Sangh Morang secretary Pramila Thapa was defeated from Biratangar Sub-metropolis-7. Likewise, NC district committee member Janardhan Niraula and general convention representative Ranjan Thapa also lost.
NC establishment
faction ahead in Sunsari
The NC establishment faction has maintained its influence in the party's village and town level conventions in Sunsari district. The establishment panel won in two sub-metropolises and three municipalities. It has also won in most of the 39 village level committees.
As per the party source, the NC's establishment faction has garnered a majority of 70 percent while the remaining 30 percent went to the Deuba faction.
Mixed results cause tension in Udaypur
The NC's Udaypur convention saw fierce contest between the establishment and Deuba factions.
Although both factions claimed victory, the results are mixed at the ward, village and town committees, including district headquarters Gaighat and Katari and Beltar-Basaha municipalities. This has led to tensions between the factions.
