However, following the news of the fire, donors came forward with generous support to help the victims rebuild their life. Thanks to the humanitarian aid received by Aurahi village, the change is evident.
According to Siraha Chief District Officer Dhruba Prasad Adhikari, more than 200 organizations, trade unions and countless individuals had donated relief packages and contributed to the fund meant for the affected people. "Above Rs 30 million was collected. The money has been used for building homes, food supply, providing health services, and so on," he said.
“There is no dearth of compassionate and helpful people. The financial and other support provided by organizations and individuals indeed helped the victims overcome the miserable situation,” said Chandan Yadav of Aurahi-3. “The support we got from the government was far too less,” he added.
The government had provided Rs 31,000 each to the family of fire victims.
According to the people, all of the families now have a hut to live in and food stock for at least two months. Children have been provided with a new set of books and stationeries.
A mobile health post ensures that the victim families are not deprived of basic health services. According to Yadav, some of the families have begun to construct permanent building as well.
The power supply to the village has also been restored. Nepal Red Cross Society is planning to construct toilets for the houses.
