SURKHET, Jan 13: Just a few weeks after a warm welcome, CNN Hero Maggie Doyne is now troubled by some unnecessary accusations against her in Surkhet district.

Some journalists and former staffers of her Kopila Valley Sewa Samaj (KVSS) are reportedly troubling Maggie following her return to Nepal after being named the CNN Hero of the Year 2015 for her contribution in changing lives in Nepal.

The 28-year-old American lady, after being fed up of the continuous attacks and criticism against her, has demanded security with the government citing threat to her life.

According to Maggie, some media are involved in foul play with baseless accusations against her. Earlier, on January 4, a former woman staffer, Koshila Mainali, of KVSS had submitted a complaint to the District Administration Office (DAO) Surkhet claiming that she was sexually assaulted by KVSS Chairperson Top Bahadur Malla.

However, Maggie turned down the applicant's claim. The applicant, who got fired from KVSS for her involvement in financial irregularities two months ago, has registered the complaint at the DAO with fake documents, according to Maggie.

"Some media are defaming my reputation without caring for journalism ethics. Recently, a group of 10-12 journalists forcibly attempted to enter our school. They took photographs without our consent," she said.

Maggie blamed the involvement of Ganesh Kanchan Bharati, president of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), Surkhet chapter, in all the conspiracies against her. She informed that Bharati's relative, who was fired from the KVSS last year, is now taking revenge by making a ploy against her.

"I've already made complaints against such fake reports in the central offices of the FNJ and Press Council. However, they have yet to take any action on my complaints," she added.

In November, Maggie was named the 2015 CNN Hero of the Year for her love and care for hundreds of needy children in Nepal. The world has duly recognized her extraordinary social service in a country on the other side of the globe. Apart from the recognition, the award carries a purse of US$ 100,000 for her BlinkNow Foundation. She also won US$ 10,000 for being among the top 10 CNN Heroes of the year.

The New Jersey native, who first visited Nepal 10 years ago, started caring for orphans and children from poor families right from the beginning.
