SARLAHI, Dec 23: Malangawa, the district headquarters of Sarlahi, remained tense throughout Tuesday as cadres of United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) continued their protest a day after their leader was arrested for public offence.

The UDMF cadres resorted to vandalism and arson to disapprove the arrest of Ashok Yadav. The agitating UDMF cadres torched a vehicle belonging to District Irrigation Office (DIO). The vehicle's rear part has been completely destroyed. The protestors even tried to torch the DIO. However, the police intervened and prevented any untoward incident.

Protestors clashed with police personnel during the incident prompting police to fire several rounds of teargas canisters.

Earlier on Sunday, police arrested district chairman of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) Yadav from a local FM radio station in Malangwa.

A case of public offence has been filed against him, according to Chief District Officer (CDO) Meghnath Kafle.

Following the arrest, UDMF cadres on Monday torched two government offices--District Drinking Water Division Office (DDWDO) and District

Women and Children Office (DWCO)--at Malangwa.

The agitating UDMF cadres have intensified their protests for the last two days demanding Yadav's immediate release.
