Stating that subscribers are not satisfied with the service of state-owned telecom operator, Minister for Information and Communications Sher Dhan Rai on Friday urged NT to stand out among competitors. "Telecommunications is an essential service. I request NT to rapidly develop communication infrastructure and enter into partnership with other companies if needed," said Rai, addressing a program organized on the occasion of 12th anniversary of NT in Kathmandu on Friday.
On the occasion, Rai also launched a book titled '100 years of Telecommunication Service'. He also unveiled the logo as well as trophy of a T20 cricket event that NT is organizing in association with Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).
Rai also said NT officials were turning a deaf ear toward MoIC's repeated instructions to improve service quality. "The ministry will not remain silent if service quality is not improved within two months. We will hire a company to find out loopholes and outsource the task of enhancing service quality to other companies," he added.
Buddhi Prasad Acharya, managing director of NT, announced various offers to subscribers on the occasion of NT's 12th anniversary.
NT is giving 12 percent bonus on recharge on pre-paid and post-paid service for three days starting Friday. Similarly, it is also doubling volume of data package for a week, providing 12 percent discount on loose data i.e. 88 paisa per MB down from Re 1 per MB for a week. Likewise, NT is extending ADSL bill payment date, and providing additional volume on FTTH and Wi-Max packages, among others.
NT is also giving away free SIM card with talk value of Rs 50 to foreign tourists visiting Nepal from Democracy day i.e. February 19.
To enhance the mobile service quality in Kathmandu, NT is adding Channel Element (CE) card by mid-February. Similarly, it is also adding 62 new 3G BTS by mid-April.
Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, chairman of NT, expressed commitment to make the service of NT more effective. "There are challenges, problems as well as opportunities in NT. I will try my best to make NT an exemplary organization with efficient staff members and services," added Thapaliya.
According to Acharya, NT is also working to introduce Internet Traffic Management System (ITMS) for effective distribution and operation of Internet services. It is also planning to launch 'NT PRO' service based on IP Technology that allows users travelling abroad to make and receive calls from Nepal if they have Internet access.
