KATHMANDU, Sept 20: CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet said party leaders have agreed not to criticize party Chair KP Sharma Oli or call for his resignation.
Speaking to reporters after Sunday’s meeting of the UML task force, Basnet said the agreement also rules out demanding Oli’s removal or speaking against him publicly.

He said the report will not include issues such as the chair’s resignation. “We have agreed not to criticize the chair, demand his resignation or seek his removal, and not to speak against him anywhere. We will not call a special general convention, and issues such as the 70-year age limit, two-term limit and leadership change will not be raised at this time. These issues can be addressed through the regular general convention and statute convention,” he said.
Basnet said the task force had integrated the separate reports prepared by Vice Chair Ram Bahadur Thapa and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and decided to forward the unified report to the party secretariat and Central Committee.
He added that suggestions received from 13 groups would be included in an annex to the report.
According to Basnet, the meeting also agreed to move the party forward in a more assertive manner and convene a meeting to launch stronger protests against the government.
