KATHMANDU, June 29: The main opposition party, the CPN-UML, has demanded the resignation of Gandaki Province Chief Minister (CM) Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel. The CPN-UML has demanded the resignation of CM Pokharel, saying that the ruling coalition has made the provincial assembly a prisoner of indecision by halting the discussion on the budget.
At a press conference organized by the CPN-UML parliamentary party on Wednesday, parliamentary party leader and the party's deputy general secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung said that Chief Minister Pokharel should resign immediately. Gurung said that the Chief Minister or the Finance Minister should resign from their posts as per the parliamentary process to resolve the dispute between the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister. An environment should be created so that the budget can be discussed in the provincial assembly.
He said that the ministers from the ruling parties had raised objections while presenting the policies and programs for the coming fiscal year. Gurung, who is also a former chief minister, said that the government should consider an alternative if the budget cannot be passed.
He said that the Chief Minister could not take action against the ministers even when the ministers from the ruling parties did not come to the provincial assembly while presenting the government's policies and programs. The CPN-UML has also demanded the reason behind the absence of those ministers during the presentation of the policies and programs.
