POKHARA, Jan 9: Khagaraj Adhikari of the CPN-UML has staked his claim to the post of chief minister (CM) of Gandaki Province. Adhikari will be submitting his claim to the Province Chief today. Adhikari, who is also the leader of the CPN-UML Gandaki Province Parliamentary Party, is going to present the claim to the Province Chief Prithvi Man Gurung with the signatures of the majority of members of the provincial assembly.
According to Sub-Article 2 of Article 168 of the Constitution of Nepal 2072, Province Chief Gurung called for the submission of claims to the post of Chief Minister with the support of two or more parties. The deadline given by the province chief is 4PM on Monday. Sources close to Adhikari say that even before that, Adhikari will take the Maoist and RPP members of provincial assembly with him to present his claim to the Province Chief Gurung.

Adhikari, who is going to submit the claim to the Province Chief Gurung, is the leader of the CPN-UML Gandaki Province Parliamentary Party. He is also a former Home and Health Minister.
In the 60-member Gandaki Provincial Assembly, he claims to have the majority with 22 members from CPN-UML, eight from CPN-Maoist Center and two from the RPP. Nepali Congress, the largest party in the provincial assembly, has 27 members, while there is one member who joined the CPN (Unified Socialist) after winning the elections as an independent candidate.
