PM KP Sharma Oli urges Egyptian President to secure the release of Bipin Joshi

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli spoke with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil El-Sisi over phone on Wednesday evening, urging him to take additional steps to secure the release of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who has been taken hostage by Hamas.

KATHMANDU, March 13: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli spoke with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil El-Sisi over phone on Wednesday evening, urging him to take additional steps to secure the release of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who has been taken hostage by Hamas.  


During the telephonic conversation, Prime Minister Oli asked President El-Sisi to help ensure Joshi's safe and swift release. Joshi, who was participating in Israel's 'Learn and Earn' program, was taken hostage during Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. In response, President El-Sisi confirmed that efforts to address the situation would continue.  


Prime Minister Oli expressed gratitude for the ongoing efforts to prioritize Joshi's name in the second phase of the prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas. He also highlighted Nepal's support for the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas and acknowledged Egypt's key role in facilitating peace.

Prime Minister Oli reaffirmed Nepal's commitment to world peace and thanked the governments of Qatar and the United States for their contributions to this humanitarian effort.  


Invitation to Sagarmatha Dialogue Program  


Prime Minister Oli invited President El-Sisi to the Sagarmatha Dialogue, which will take place in Kathmandu from May 15 to May 17. As Egypt hosted the UN climate change conference COP-27, Prime Minister Oli urged President El-Sisi to collaborate on climate change issues. Nepal will host the first session of this global dialogue, focusing on climate change, the mountains, and the future of human life.  


The leaders discussed multiple issues of common interest, including candidacies for UN platforms, bilateral cooperation, high-level visits, and strengthening relations between the two nations.
