KATHMANDU, Oct 10: Shankar Tiwari, a prominent youth leader of the Nepali Congress (NC), has called for a timely change in the party’s leadership ahead of the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026, amid growing demands from the Gen Z movement for young, transparent, and accountable leadership.

Tiwari emphasized that whether the NC holds a special or regular convention, new leadership must be selected at least two weeks before the Election Commission (EC)’s deadline for party registration. This places the ideal timeline for leadership selection between November 6 and 11, 2025.

“The party must send a clear message to the youth and other voters, many of whom are already considering shifting to new political alternatives,” Tiwari said. “If the leadership is not renewed, there will be no more effective way to demonstrate that the Congress has truly transformed and is ready for the future.”

Tiwari’s statement comes in the wake of the recent Gen Z protests demanding younger leadership, transparency, and accountable governance in political parties. The youth-led movement has intensified pressure on established parties to rejuvenate their leadership and adopt reforms that resonate with younger voters.

The call by Tiwari reflects growing concern among younger NC members over the need for generational change and stronger engagement with voters ahead of the national polls.
