KATHMANDU, Aug 20: As many as 10 people were killed and 11 others are missing in the incidents of landslides and floods in various places in Sudurpaschim Province on Tuesday.
Those killed by landslides and floods are from Achham, Bajura and Bhajang districts in the province.
A massive flood in Kailash River of Ramaroshan Rural Municipality-5 in Achham district killed six people and left 10 others missing. “Six dead bodies have been recovered from the incident side,” said SSP Mukesh Singh, who is also Spokesperson of Sudurpaschim Police Division.
Floods and landslides kill 70 in Province 1
The Nepal Army helicopter has already arrived in Achham for a search and rescue operation.
More than 22 houses were swept away by a massive flood in the village on Tuesday midnight.
Similarly, two persons were killed in Bajhang district by a landslide on the same night. Five members of a family were killed when a landslide triggered by the incessant rainfall buried a house at Bugal Municipality-5 in the district.
Likewise, two individuals from Bajura District were also killed in separate incidents of landslides on Tuesday night. Two elderly-- each from Chededaha Rural Municipality-5 and Nanda Municipality-6 in the district-- were killed by the landslide last night.
A number of places in Sudur Paschim Province have witnessed a loss of life and properties due to landslides and floods. A large number of people are also left injured and displaced from their villages as the rainfall has continued for the past few days.
