KATHMANDU, Oct 31: Bamdev Gautam, a member of the National Assembly has suggested that the Nepal-India border should be closed and a visa system should be implemented.
He made this proposal during a meeting of the Committee on Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance of the National Assembly while discussing issues related to the production and export of betel nut.
Revised interest rate corridor system introduced
Gautam said that goods produced in Nepal are exported to India by evading the customs due to the open border and that a wall should be built along the Nepal-India border. He said that the government’s failure to resolve the issue of betel nut exports reflects its incompetence and alleged the people within the government of working together with smugglers. He emphasized the need to close the open borders and implement a visa system.
He said that the movement of people should only be through the designated border points. He said that people have been killed in Nepal by other people entering from India and that the situation in a free country should not be like this.
