KATHMANDU, Feb 1: The CPN-UML's Central Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation Department, along with the National Cooperative Federation Limited Nepal, recently submitted suggestions to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. They have recommended the amendment of certain provisions of the recently issued Cooperative-related ordinance and modifying them when introducing a replacement bill to the existing Nepal Cooperative Act.

On Saturday, Khagaraj Adhikari, head of the CPN-UML's Central Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation Department, and Om Devi Malla, chairperson of the National Cooperative Federation of Nepal, separately submitted letters to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar. They have requested to amend the ordinance provision that prohibits an individual from being elected for more than two consecutive terms as the director of a cooperative organization that is primarily engaged in savings and despatching loans, and to ensure that no one can serve more than two consecutive terms in the same position.

Prime Minister Oli accepted the suggestions and stated that the government would discuss these issues when introducing the replacement bill. He emphasized the need to consult political parties, as it is a coalition government.
