TV, speakers and projectors sales grow as Euro Cup nears

KATHMANDU, May 14: Demand for LCD and LED television sets has increased by up to 40 percent since last one month due to the ongoing wedding season and upcoming Euro Cup 2012.



As Euro Cup is starting from mid-May, hotels, restaurant, cafés and football lovers are buying TV sets, projectors and sound system for better viewing experience.[break]



Binay Tripathi, deputy general manager of Him Electronics - the authorized distributor of Samsung, said the demand for LCD TV has increased by almost 40 percent. The company the used to sell around 900 units monthly is presently is selling around 1,500 units a month.



Various brands of televisions like LG, CG, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, Mitashi, Yasuda, Daewoo, Videocon, Idea, Boss Star, Kenstar, Himstar, Myota, Waiga, Force, Sky Worth, Konka, Mitashi, Yamaha, Sansui and Technos among others are available in the local market. These televisions are mostly imported from India, Thailand, Korea, China and Japan, while some are assembled in Nepal itself.







Anil Tamrakar, salesman of Annapurna Speaker House, Mahabauddha, said demand for projectors has also increased along with TV sets as hotels and restaurant operators are buying it to telecast Euro Cup matches in big screens to boost their business. Besides many schools and colleges are buying it as recently the trend of teaching students through projector has increased, he added.



In the market, CRT TV of LG is available from 14 inch to 21 inch and are priced in the range of Rs 9,690 to Rs 21,300. Similarly, 22-42 inch LCD TVs by LG are available in the range of Rs 29,990 to Rs 85,990. Similarly, 26-42 inch LED TVs of LG cost in range of 57,290 to Rs 164,900. Chinese TV brands of 14-42 inches are priced between Rs 7,500 and Rs 50,000.



“The demand for Chinese TV brands had gone down due to power cuts, but with Euro Cup approaching, it has increased by around 20 percent. We expect the demand to go up further,” said Lila Hari Aryal, sales executive of Malika Trade Link Centre, Dillibazar.



Umesh Giri of New Giri Impex, Mahabauddha said demand of amplifiers and speakers have also increased. Besides, sales of sound system have also gone up with growing number of banquets and party venues in the capital.



Projectors with price ranging from Rs 12,500 to Rs 154,990 are available in the market. Speakers, on the other hand, are available in range of Rs 13,590 to Rs 34,900. Similarly sound systems are available in the range of Rs 5,000 to Rs 120,000.
