KATHMANDU, Dec 21: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has fined the Bhatbhateni Supermarket and Department Store in Tripureshwar with Rs 200,000.
According to Dr Awadhesh Jha, an inspector from the Agriculture and Livestock Department of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), the fine was imposed following complaints received at KMC's call center.

During an inspection by the monitoring team, dried coconuts kept for sale were found to be rotten and infested with insects and mold. As part of the inspection, 44 packets of inedible coconuts were destroyed in the presence of the store's manager, and the fine was imposed.
The action was taken in accordance with sections (d) and (e) of Clause 29 of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City's Market Management and Monitoring Act, 2077 BS. The fine amount has been deposited into the city's revenue account, and the metropolis has instructed the store to ensure high-quality and edible food items are sold in the future.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has also stated that it is conducting Food Safety Promotion Camps (Food Safety Boot Camps) for the promotion and certification of food hygiene.
