KATHMANDU, April 28: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has slapped a fine of Rs 300,000 on Bhatbhateni Supermarket for selling daily essentials at prices higher than the stated prices of the goods.
A monitoring team from the department found that the supermarket at Tangal had sold consumer goods for more than the MRP of these goods. The department said the store has been fined as per the Consumer Protection Act, 2075.

Similarly, the department fined the MBT Food Store at Kapan Rs 100,000 as it was found operating without keeping a price list of commodities.
The government has permitted big stores including Bhatbhateni to open even during the lockdown for the convenience of the people to buy essentials. The department has intensified market monitoring despite the lockdown to prevent consumers from being cheated during the present adverse situation.
