Transport workers demand federal government to adjust transport fares

KATHMANDU, Feb 5; Transport workers and their associations have demanded that the federal government be given the right to adjust the fares of public transport.


Nepal Transport Workers Union affiliated to Nepali Congress, Nepal Transport Workers Union affiliated to CPN-UML and All Nepal Transport Workers Union affiliated to CPN (Maoist Center) met Chairman of Legislative Management Committee under National Assembly Pashuram Meghi Gurung on Friday and demanded that the right to adjust public transport fare be given to the federal government.

The transport workers have also demanded an amendment in the anti-worker provisions of the Vehicle and Transport Management Act, 2049 BS and other Acts. Chairman of the Nepal Transport Workers' Union, Dharmaraj Bhandari, said that they have demanded an amendment to the system of paying the medical expenses of the injured so that the cost of medical treatment does not exceed Rs. 300,000.


The workers said that the provincial government has enacted the Provincial Vehicle and Transport Management Act whose provisions contradict with the Vehicle and Transport Management Act, 1993.
