KATHMANDU, March 13: Transport entrepreneurs have reiterated their warning to increase the transport fares unilaterally if the government does not adjust the fares by March 22.
Stating that the adjusted fare is still the same despite repeated price hikes in petroleum products, the entrepreneurs have demanded the government adjust the transport fares immediately.
Khotang transport entrepreneurs decide not to hike fare
The entrepreneurs complained that it was ironic that the fare which was adjusted when the diesel price was Rs 104 per liter remains the same when the fuel price has reached Rs 133 per liter. He said that a scientific adjustment was needed today at a time when the prices of every commodity in the market were skyrocketing.
At a press conference today, President of the National Federation of Nepali National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) Yogendra Nath Karmacharya demanded the government adjust the fares scientifically. He also warned that if the fare is not adjusted by March 22, the entrepreneurs will be forced to hike the fares themselves.
According to transport entrepreneurs, the cost of the public bus has increased by 9.03 percent, truck (hill) by 11.82 percent and truck (Terai) by 13.13 percent based on the 35 percent indicator of fuel according to the current scientific fare system.
Similarly, the cost of petrol-powered vehicles has increased by 8.5 percent. The entrepreneurs also drew the government’s attention to the fact that the transport fares were adjusted in Gandaki Province but not in Bagmati Province.
They also demanded that the fares of the vehicles carrying tourists be reviewed using a scientific system.
