Three arrested on charge of raping 23-year-old girl in Morang

The girl, who was out on a morning walk on Tuesday, was found in a semi-conscious state with her hands and feet tied and her mouth gagged in a bamboo located between the fields in the afternoon.

KATHMANDU, Dec 26: Police have arrested three people on the charge of gang-raping a 23-year-old girl in Jahda, Morang district.


According to the Morang police, the arrested have been identified as Mohammad Ramzan, 20, of Kathari Rural Municipality-2, Sunil Kumar Shah, 19, and Mohammad Gulzar, 18, of Bihar, India (currently working at a garage in Katahari 2).

Ved Prakash Joshi, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and spokesperson for Morang Police, said that they were taken into custody based on the initial statement of the victim.


Police said that further investigation is underway against them after the Morang District Court in Biratnagar extended their remand to investigate charges of kidnapping, coercion by keeping the body hostage, attempted murder and rape.


The girl, who was out on a morning walk on Tuesday, was found in a semi-conscious state with her hands and feet tied and her mouth gagged in a bamboo forest located between the fields in the afternoon. Police have initiated investigation with the preliminary assumption that she was gang-raped.


Police further said that she  is currently undergoing treatment at Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar.
