Commission chief Niroj Maskey informed that 13 teams are to participate in the tournament scheduled to kick off on Monday in Sauraha, Chitwan. The tournament is organized in association with Regional Hotel Association of Nepal, Chitwan.[break]
According to Maskey, the tournament is organized as a selection tournament for the upcoming First South Asian Beach Games to be held in Sri Lanka on August. Nepal Police Club, Nepal APF Club, PLA Sports club, Eastern Region and Western Region will have two participating teams each in the tournament while Central, Mid-Western and Far-Western regions will have a team each.
Inter Campus Volleyball kicks off
KATHMANDU: Nationwide Inter Campus Volleyball Tournament organized by Council of Free Students´ Unions kicked off in the capital on Sunday. Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal inaugurated the tournament at the Ratna Rajyalaxmi (RR) Campus. In the opening match RR defeated Tri-Chandra Campus while Public Youth edged past White House College in the second match of the day. The tournament, participated by 23 campus teams, carries prize of Rs 50,000 for winner and Rs 30,000 for the runner-up.
Green Field, Innovative win
KATHMANDU: Green Field and Innovative won their respective matches on Sunday in the senior category of the First Neric Cup Inter School Boys Basketball Tournament. Green Field defeated Grammar School 21-16 while Innovative thrashed Angel Lord 40-15. Likewise, Shining Star beat Venus 27-25 and Teresa eased past Rose Bud 43-20. Gyan Niketan overpowered NOBS 25-18 while Kantipur English School struggled past Care English Boarding school 49-45. Meanwhile, Innovative and host Neric entered into the quarterfinals of junior category.
Khadka, Rai win race
KATHMANDU: Saraswoti Khadka and Santosh Rai won the women´s and men´s title of 5 km race on Sunday organized under Third Republican Open National Games. Khadka completed the distance in 21.56 minutes, ahead of Sachita Daunwar and Bindu Danuwar who secured second and third positions respectively. Mina Sharma finished fourth. In men´s section, Rai finished the distance in 16.40 minutes. Gani Bhattarai and Laxman Thapa secured second and third position respectively. The top three runners of both the categories bagged a purse of Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively. Sharma, who finished fourth in women´s section, was also given Rs 1,500 as consolation prize. Earlier, Minister for Youth and Sports Hit Bahadur Tamang inaugurated the games to be held until June 4.
