SPORTS BRIEFS: Kathmandu Academy, St Lawrence in BST Cup QF

KATHMANDU, Jan 15: Kathmandu Academy and St Lawrence entered into the quarterfinals of the First BST Cup Inter College Boys´ Basketball Tournament on Friday.



Kathmandu Academy defeated TIA 47-53. Shankar Pradhan scored the highest 10 points for Kathmandu Academy. [break]



Meanwhile, St Lawrence ousted Canvas 54-37 with the help of Santok Thakuri´s 17 points.





Basketball team off to Thailand



KATHMANDU, Jan 15: A 15-member Nepali basketball team left for Bankgok, Thailand on Friday for the last phase training to prepare for the 11th South Asian Games to be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 29 to February 9.



The team includes 12 players -- Bipendra Maharjan, Rabindra Maskey, Karma Gurung, Sanjay Byanjyankar, Bikram Joshi, Sadish Pradhan, Amir Ghale, Manoj Sherchan, Bijay Khatri, Binod Shrestha, Yuktabhakta Mathema and Binod Maharjan.



Nepal Basketball Association Vice-president Narendra Thapa is the team manager and Dinesh Chandra Nakarmi and Nagendra Poudel Chhetri are the coaches.
