SPORTS BRIEFS: Golden Gate, South Siders in basketball semis

KATHMANDU, July 12: South Siders and Golden Gate on Monday advanced into the semifinals of the Valley-wide Open Men´s Basketball Tournament at the covered hall of Dasharath Stadium.



Leading all quarters other than the last, South Siders saw off Prime 61-51. Rishi Robinson scored the highest 27 points for the winning side. In another match, Golden Gate hammered Xavier International 93-28. Jole netted 27 points for Golden Gate. [break]



Golden Gate will meet South Siders and White House will take on NASA in the semifinal matches. The tournament is being organized by Madan Bhandari Sports Academy.





Inter-school football



KATHMANDU, July 12: Nepal APF School defeated Sirius 2-0 on Monday in the Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school Boys´ Football tournament held at the Sano Gaucharan grounds. Rupesh Nepali scored both goals for APF.



Birendra Sainik hammered Easter Academy 12-0. Anup Subedi netted six goals while Khadka Balami and Krishna Gole netted twice and Tirtha Adhikari and Anil Subedi scored one each for Birendra Sainik. Likewise, a solitary goal from Bishal Khatri helped Shangrila Glory Public beat Yuyutsu 1-0.



In other matches held at the Chyasal grounds, Nawajyoti, Changunarayan, Sudesha and Arunodaya emerged victorious. Nawajyoti and Arunodaya enjoyed walkovers.



Changunarayan beat National School 2-0. Madan Bahadur Nepali and Bijay Nepali scored apiece for Changunarayan. Likewise, Sudesha thrashed Takshashila Academy 6-0. Rukesh Rana netted a hat-trick for the winning side while Suraja Thapa netted twice and Niraj Pakhrin added another.
