KATHMANDU, July 4: Golden Gate and South Siders are set to vie for the men's title in the Morgan Cup 12th Women and 13th Men National Club-wide Basketball Tournament being held in Kathmandu.
The final between Golden Gate and South Siders will be played at the Covered-hall of National Sports Council in Tripureshwar on Monday. The teams entered the final winning their semifinal matches on Sunday.
In the first semifinal, Golden Gate defeated GAA by 84-60 with Sushil Gurung's highest 30 points.
Domination in the first and second quarters was crucial for Golden Gate to win the encounter.
Golden Gate took first quarter by 29-13 and second quarter by 24-9. However, GAA tried hard in the third and fourth quarters by claiming those 24-22 and 14-9, but that was not enough to win the match.
Similarly, in the second semifinal, South Siders edged past Innovative by 74-58 to confirm its meeting with Golden Gate. Yukta Mathema scored highest 26 points for the winner.
South Siders lead the first quarter by 18-17, but Innovative claimed second quarter by 11-10. However, South Siders put pressure on the opposition by winning leading the third round by 17-10.
In the last quarter, Innovative struggled to bounce back and claimed it by 20-19, however was six points behind the winner.
Meanwhile, in women's section being played in round robin format, Whitehouse beat Xavier's by 51-36.
Alisha Malla contributed highest 16 points for Whitehouse that will play Prime, remained undefeated team, in the virtual final on Monday. The winner will be champion.
