SPORTS BRIEFS: Double delight for Bhandari

KATHMANDU, June 30: Pratigya Bhandari of Bijeshwari School won two gold medals in athletics during the Second President´s Cup Running Shield Tournament organized by the Kathmandu District Development Committee.



Bhandari bagged her first gold in shot put in girls´ category and her second in girls´ long jump. Niraj Bista of Prithvi School won the long jump gold in boys´ category. [break]



Bikash Thapa won the gold in boys´ 400 meters race of the event held at the Dasharath Stadium while Anita Thapa of Bijeshwari clinched gold in the girls´ 400 meters. Laxmi Karki, who claimed gold medals in 1,000 meters and 500 meters, stood first also in the girls´ 3,000 meters race.



Narahari Gautam of Deepjyoti School won boys´ triple jump while Gyani Chunara of Bijeshwari stood first in the girls´ category of triple jump.





Krishna School win



KATHMANDU, June 30: Krishna Higher Secondary School defeated Blue Rain International School 6-1 during the Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school Boys´ National Football Tournament at Sano Gaucharan Ground. Indra Thapa Magar alone scored four goals to lead Krishna to victory.



Likewise, Himalaya Boarding School beat Nandi Ratri Secondary School 3-0 and KU High School thrashed IJ Pioneer 7-0. NIMS eased past Pearls Academy 2-1.



Meanwhile, Trijyoti High School, St Xavier´s, Joseph English School and Somang Academy won their respective matches at the ANFA Technical Center, Chyasal.





Special Sports Tournament on Saturday



KATHMANDU, June 30: The 15th Nationwide Inter-School Special Sports Tournament will kick off on Saturday.



According to host National Sports Council, 325 differently abled athletes will participate in the tournament to be held at the Dasharath Stadium. The athletes will compete in three sections -- deaf, blind and physically disabled.
