SPORTS BRIEFS: Double delight for Sapkota

KATHMANDU, July 9: Premraj Sapkota has won two medals in the South Asian Karate Championship being held in Mumbai, India. Sapkota won gold in open weight category and silver in kata, according to Nepal Siterio Karate Association.



Similarly, Sarita Sapkota also won two silver medals. She won in open weight category and kata. [break]



Umesh Mainali won bronze in men´s 60 kg weight category. Bishan Mote is leading the Nepali team.





Rijal, Sherpa in semifinals



KATHMANDU, July 9: Silver medalist of 11th South Asian Games (SAG) Purushottam Rijal, Pasang Tendi Sherpa, Shambhu Tamang and Rajkumar Shrestha advanced into the semifinals during the selection process in wushu´s sansau for participation in the 16th Asian Games on Friday.



Likewise, 10th SAG gold medalist Raj Kumar Rasaili along with Yuvraj Gurung, Ghanashyam Karki and Satya Ram Kiju reached the final round of the selection process.



In the girls´ category, 11th SAG bronze medalist Jharana Gurung, Chahana Lama, Menuka Tamang and Sarita Shrestha entered the semifinals.



According to Nepal Wushu Association, 39 players, three each in 13 different categories, will be selected to participate in the Asiad to be held in Guangzhou, China, in November.
