KATHMANDU, May 3: Landslides triggered by continuous rainfall over the past few days have obstructed several major highways and road sections across the country, police said.
According to central police spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General Dinesh Acharya, landslides that occurred on Sunday morning blocked multiple roads, including the Kanti Lokpath at Pangdur in Bagmati Rural Municipality-3 of Lalitpur, the Bhalubang–Pyuthan road section at Khahare Khola in Sarumarani Rural Municipality-4 of Pyuthan, the Kanti Lokpath road section at Bharyangdanda in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-8 of Makwanpur, and the Mid-Hill Highway at Bimire Bhanjyang in Madhya Nepal Municipality-10 of Lamjung.
Police said the Araniko Highway at Kodari in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2 of Sindhupalchok has remained completely blocked since a landslide struck the area on April 29, and the road has yet to reopen.
Meanwhile, the Mid-Hill Highway at Bokhim in Bhojpur Municipality-5 of Bhojpur, which had been obstructed by flooding on April 25, and the Beni–Jomsom road section at Jalthale in Annapurna Rural Municipality-3 of Myagdi, blocked by a landslide on April 29, have resumed one-way operations.
Police have urged travelers to exercise caution while travelling on highways during the monsoon season, warning that the risk of floods and landslides remains high.
