Spiderman comes to Kathmandu; Lord Ram is bashed by Rawan

By
KATHMANDU, July 20: Breaking news: Spiderman comes to Kathmandu. Many saw him doing some stunts on the roofs of the Dashrath Rangashala at Tripureshwor. The children gathered to see their favorite hero and cheered. They expect Spiderman to rescue those who are in trouble. But they could not believe what they saw. Instead of rescuing others, Spiderman himself is in big trouble. He is trapped and he cannot escape. He tries to use his powers but they don’t work any more, and finally he gives up.[break]

On the Kirtipur grounds, Ram comes for a dialogue with Rawan. As their roundtable discussions do not go as planned, they start to fight. And in the Rangashala boxing ring, Mike Tyson is busy smashing people’s heads.

Flummoxed? But yes, Kathmandu now does not needs actor Peter Parker to come do the Spiderman’s role. We also have our versions of legendaries like Ram and Rawan, and we will soon see our Mike Tysons in the boxing rings. Well…if not for real, we will at least get to see these superheroes in The Unity’s upcoming music video “Juni Juni” from their last album “Byakaran.”

Though this music video was shot one year ago, The Unity could not release it because they planned to come up with another music video as a tribute to singer Kool Pokharel who died almost five years ago. Even after releasing the said video, “Juni Juni” was put on hold because they had done a music video for the movie “Mission Paisa” which was released some two months ago. And finally, The Unity is all set to premiere their much awaited music video this Saturday through Play It On program in NTV2 and from other channels too.

Conceptualized and directed by Asif Shah, and one of the vocalists in the band, Unity’s upcoming music video is a break from those stereotype Nepali music videos that only have either a romance between two or tragedies. It is a relief from just see some dancing to some dohori tunes, and thankfully it does not result in you becoming emotional at the end. For those who are tired of watching remixed songs one after the other, and for those who have been waiting for some powerful lyrics to listen to, “Juni Juni” is a stress buster.

To bring you a synopsis of the music video, it begins with three friends, Sudin Pokharel, Asif Shah and Amit of The Unity going to a cinema hall. As the movie begins, three of them start dreaming themselves as superheroes. Sudin imagines himself becoming Spiderman, Asif turns to Lord Ram, and Amit becomes the legendary boxer Mike Tyson. And their close friend Aditya plays the role of Rawan.

We cannot elaborate more than this or else it would be a story spoiler. After all, you will get to see the video through different Nepali channels from Saturday onwards. But we have to say that this new video is cutely conceptualized and it will leave you laughing at the end. The storyline does not leave you wondering about it for the next three days like most of the movies do. However, you feel relaxed and mesmerized till you complete the video.

Remembering the time when The Unity started shooting for this video, rapper Sudin Pokharel said, “We’ve done romantic and cheesy videos and we’ve tried emotional ones. Now we wanted to make people laugh. Asif suddenly got stuck by this idea and we all liked it. That’s how we began.”

´Juni Juni´ is choreographed to appeal all age groups. The concept of Spiderman is to appease children, the battle between Ram and Rawan is made to attract the adults, and Mike Tyson for other age groups. But yes, these characters do not resemble all what the real ones did. This time the Spiderman cannot help others, Ram is beaten badly by Rawan, and Mike Tyson fails to show his boxing stunts. Though quite a remix version of the real characters, the entire lineup is made creatively, and for sure they are not monotonous.

“A lot of people gave us annoying stares while we were shooting at the Rangashala and in Kirtipur. I still remember children calling Aditya as Bhim when he was playing the role of Rawan. Man! He was so upset,” Pokharel laughed.

Though Hari Humagain’s cinematography is nothing very exceptional, his approach in framing the characters is neat; and Glitters Studio’s additional effects have provided the video a new presentation and style. Also, the lyrics are powerful and they don’t sound like those sung by beginners.

The Unity is planning to come up with “Byakaran II” by the end of the Dashain and Tihar festivals.
