KATHMANDU, June 20: Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has asked the government to inform the House of the truth behind the recent price hike after the main opposition party CPN-UML demanded an answer from the government.

Speaking at a parliament meeting on Monday, CPN-UML Secretary and lawmaker Padma Aryal said that the Prime Minister should immediately answer the questions put forth. Following the demand from the opposition party,  Speaker Sapkota directed the government to present the facts in the House.

Stating that the inflation rise has made the life of the public difficult, Secretary Aryal demanded the government give the reasons behind the rise in prices. She said that the party will not allow the House to run smoothly if the government does not answer the queries raised in the house.

“The government is making the people suffer by increasing prices instead of providing relief. This is not the time to hurt the people. Today, people's lives are becoming more and more difficult due to inflation. The CPN-UML cannot just stand and watch these things happen.

“We have to speak the voices of the people in this parliament. Therefore, on behalf of the people, on behalf of the CPN-UML, through the Honorable Speaker, I would like to ask why did this government have to raise the prices so much in such a short period of time? We want an answer to this. So what is the compulsion in such important issues related to the life of the people, related to the livelihoods of the people? Until the Prime Minister comes to the House and gives an answer as to why the price has been increased, and gives a satisfactory answer to the people, the House will not function,” she said.

After that, UML lawmakers stood up and obstructed the meeting.
