KATHMANDU, Feb 22: The Supreme Court has rejected two writ petitions demanding that the process of ratifying the US-funded Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement from parliament be stopped immediately.

The apex court rejected the writ petitions stating that they cannot be registered on matters regarding policy. Stating that it is unnecessary to conduct a hearing by the court as the grant agreement has already been tabled at parliament, the court rejected the writ petitions against the MCC.

The MCC was tabled at parliament on Sunday Feb 20. Now, discussions on the grant agreement will be conducted in both houses of the federal parliament. Although the MCC has already been tabled at parliament, the ruling coalition has not been able to reach a consensus regarding the project.

While the ruling Nepali Congress has announced its stand on voting in favor of the project, the CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist) have remained very skeptical over the ratification of the grant agreement.
