RSP leaders and supporters stage protest in Maitighar against Rabi Lamichhane’s arrest

KATHMANDU, Oct 19: Leaders and supporters of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) gathered at Maitighar Mandala, Kathmandu on Saturday to stage protests against the arrest of the party’s chairman Rabi Lamichhane on Friday evening.


At the protest, people carried placards and shouted slogans such as “Justice to cooperative victims”, “Down with the corrupt government”, “Punish the guilty, free the innocent”, “The government has died”, and “The people are suffering”.

Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Lamichhane was arrested by the police on Friday evening from the party's central office and sent to Pokhara after the Kaski District Court issued an arrest warrant against him, following allegations of involvement in embezzlement of cooperative funds.


Former Home Minister Lamichhane will be investigated for cooperative fraud and organized crime. He is accused of misappropriating cooperative savings while serving as the managing director of Gorkha Media Network.
