KATHMANDU, Aug. 13: The monsoon remains active across the country, with the monsoon trough currently around its average position, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD).
The Himalayan and hilly regions are generally cloudy, while the Terai areas of Koshi and Madhesh provinces are partly cloudy. The weather is mainly clear in the Terai areas of Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is currently occurring in some parts of Koshi, Gandaki, Bagmati and Karnali provinces, the division said.
According to the Division, the Himalayan and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces will remain generally cloudy this afternoon. The Terai areas of Madhesh and Sudurpaschim provinces will experience partly cloudy conditions.

Moderate rain or snowfall is likely in some parts of the Himalayan and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces and in a few places in the Himalayan and hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Similarly, a few places in the Terai areas of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces and one or two places in the Terai of Sudurpaschim province are likely to receive moderate rainfall.
Tonight, the country will remain generally cloudy. Some parts of the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, are likely to receive moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Some parts of the Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, along with one or two places in Madhesh Province, are also likely to receive moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning.
The MFD has urged residents in areas at risk of heavy rainfall to remain cautious, warning that heavy rain could increase the risk of debris flow, floods, landslides and soil erosion.
