KATHMANDU, Aug 23: Monsoon winds continue to influence weather across the country, with the monsoon low pressure line remaining around its average position, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.
The country is currently experiencing generally cloudy conditions. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in some parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in one or two places in Gandaki Province.
Heavy rain likely in some parts of the country
This afternoon, generally cloudy conditions are expected nationwide. Some areas of the Himalayan region may receive moderate rain and snowfall with thunder and lightning. Most hilly areas are also likely to experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Some parts of the Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as parts of the Terai in Madhes, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, may receive moderate rain with thunder and lightning. Heavy rainfall is possible at one or two locations in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Generally cloudy conditions are expected across the country tonight as well. Some Himalayan areas may receive moderate rain and snowfall with thunderstorms and lightning. Several hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces are also likely to receive moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning.
The division has urged people in areas at risk of heavy rainfall to remain alert, warning of possible debris flows, floods, landslides and soil erosion.
Rainfall could also disrupt daily life and affect agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, road transport and air services. The division has advised concerned authorities and the public to stay updated with weather information.
