Heavy rainfall forecast in Bagmati, several provinces

Since last night, several provinces have been experiencing rainfall. In Bardiya district, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been recorded at monitoring stations in Daulatpur, Bargadahi, Rambhapur, Rani Jarwa, and Kumra. Similarly, Gorkha, Lamjung, Kaski, Parbat, Palpa, and Baglung districts of Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces have seen moderate to heavy rainfall.

KATHMANDU, June 20: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has predicted rainfall in several regions of Nepal today, with chances of heavy rain in some areas, including Bagmati Province.


Since last night, several provinces have been experiencing rainfall. In Bardiya district, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been recorded at monitoring stations in Daulatpur, Bargadahi, Rambhapur, Rani Jarwa, and Kumra. Similarly, Gorkha, Lamjung, Kaski, Parbat, Palpa, and Baglung districts of Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces have seen moderate to heavy rainfall.


Rising water levels in major rivers and smaller streams in these areas are expected, along with an increased risk of landslides in fragile and steep terrain. The department has warned residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain on high alert.

Significant rainfall has also been recorded near Khudi Bazaar in Lamjung, causing a rise in the Khudi River’s water level. The department has urged people living near riverbanks to exercise extreme caution.


This afternoon, skies are expected to remain partly to generally cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in some hilly areas and isolated parts of other regions.


There is a forecast of heavy rain at one or two locations in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. Light rainfall and possible snowfall are also expected in some high hills and mountainous areas. Parts of the Tarai in Koshi and Madhesh provinces may witness gusty winds.


Monsoon conditions currently prevail in several parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and eastern Lumbini Province. Additionally, a low-pressure system formed over West Bengal, India, is exerting partial influence on Nepal’s weather, particularly in western regions.
